On the night on January 10th, our family arrived back in Washington State. We spent a little over 3 weeks traveling across China visiting friends and family along the way. After seeing some friends in Chengdu, we went to visit Tamara’s oldest sister Monica and her family, who live in a minority area of southwest China. After spending 8 days with them, including Christmas, we drove 6 hours southeast to visit Tamara’s other older sister Shawna and her family, who also live in a minority area of southern China. Shawna and her family just moved to China so we were able to spend 9 days with them helping them to get settled into their apartment. From there, we went to Hong Kong where we spent 2 full days. Our long flight back to the US went through Taipei and then Vancouver before arriving in Seattle. Overall, the boys did a great job traveling across China and traveling across the Pacific.
Just a few days after arriving back in the Pacific Northwest, a big snowstorm came dropping about 20 inches (50cm) of snow at our home in Tumwater! While the temperatures were not all that cold, the heavy snow made it impossible for us to get around. After the heavy snow came icy rain which caused trees to fall and knock out electricity to much of the Olympia-Tumwater area. So, it was a pretty crazy first week back in the US!
We are happy to be back in the US. It is quite an adjustment for us, but I am sure we will adjust quite quickly. Tyler has his first doctors appointment at Seattle Children’s Hospital on January 30th. After that appointment, we will know more about what this year will look like regarding Tyler’s surgeries. We will be sure to keep you all posted.
